A fine harbour -atmosphere in Hou
Seaports have their own particular charm. If you get up early on a summer morning, you can sit down on one of the piers and enjoy the sunrise over the Kattegat sea. Later on the town and the harbour -awakens, and there is always some-thing to see here. From the ferry port there is a link to and from the island of Samsø with several departures every day. There are also departures, of the small red ferry to the island Tunø. On most days, both islands are clearly visible from Hou. The small flat island, situated near the harbour, is called Hou Røn. It emerged from the sea in the 1930s.
An extension of the ferry harbour has been planned for 2008. Go for a walk on a summer’s day and read the many amusing names on the boats, or take a seat in the Cafeen on the quay and enjoy a refreshment. In July the Harbour Fête will include the ever popular discipline the Hou Drop harbour race for home-built vessels. Just north of the ferry port there is also a fine sandy beach, and there are many woodland areas near the town. Overall it is no mystery why Hou has become a magnet for new arrivals.
